Write a letter to the editor

Thank you for taking the time to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.

Please fill in the address information below, and use the search tool to locate newspapers in your area.  Select the newspapers you would like to write, and fill in the body of the letter you would like to send.

A few tips to give you the best chance of having your letter published:
  • Keep it short. Fewer words = more power! Your goal should be 200 words.
  • Personalize your letter. Talk about your experience - or that of your family and friends - with marriage equality, and what it means to you.
  • Some points you might want to make in your letter:
    • Say "thank you" to supporters of equality. Governor Patrick, Senator Murray, Representative DiMasi and 151 courageous legislators did the right thing by defending all families and keeping discrimination out of the Massachusetts Constitution. The people of our community appreciate their leadership and their honorable actions around last week's Constitutional Convention.
    • If your legislator voted against the discriminatory amendment on June 14th, please be sure to publicly thank them in your letter.
    • We can be proud to live in Massachusetts -- where the equal rights of all citizens are protected. The Massachusetts Legislature fulfilled its Constitutional duty by safeguarding equal marriage rights for same-sex couples and ensuring that one group of people would not be allowed to vote on the rights of another group of people.
    • Thankfully, we can now move on to the issues that are important to our community, like the economy, education, and health care.
Dear Editor,
