MassEquality Names Interim Executive Director

BOSTON, JUNE 23, 2010 —MassEquality has named Paula Herrington its interim executive director until a permanent executive director is hired. Herrington was retained through Third Sector New England’s Executive Transitions Program.

“We are headed into an important election season and we don’t want to lose momentum,” said Sara Whitman, chair of the MassEquality Board of Directors. “There are 93 contested seats in the state legislative elections this fall. In order to maintain a super-majority of 151 pro-equality lawmakers to defend against anti-LGBT ballot initiatives, we need to ensure that at least 66 of those races are won by pro-equality candidates. We simply can’t afford to be without leadership during this crucial period.”

Herrington is an experienced interim executive director, having worked most recently for ETC Development Corp., a nonprofit developer of affordable housing, and Somerville Community Corp., a nonprofit community development organization. Her specialty is interim executive management and she is not a candidate for the permanent executive director position.

The search for a permanent executive director is being managed by McCormack & Associates, a search firm that specializes in diversity recruiting. Whitman said that the process is well underway and the organization hopes to announce its new executive director soon.
