MassEquality Updates (July 2, 2015)

  • SCOTUS Decision Celebration Event: On Friday, MassEquality co-hosted alivelyrallyonthefront steps of the Massachusetts State House to celebrate the SCOTUS decision supporting the constitutional right of same-sex couples to marry! Among many other wonderful speakers,MassEquality board co-chair Robyn Ochs (pictured) spoke about the organization’s important role in the path leading up to the decision and thanked all the individuals and ally organizations that played critical roles as well. The event was a huge success and has left many asking the question, “What’s next?” That’s a great question with many answers, a few of which are:
  • Ending legalized discrimination against trans people; click here to learn more about the Freedom Massachusetts campaign to end discrimination against trans people in public spaces
  • Supporting homeless youth
  • Ensuring our schools have comprehensive sex education courses
  • Addressing income, healthcare, and educational disparities impacting communities of color
  • Banning fraudulent conversion therapy practices aimed at changing the gender identity or sexual orientation of minors
  • Providing culturally competent services for aging LGBTQ people
  • And so much more!
