GRAPEVINE, Texas and BOSTON – The Boy Scouts of America voted yesterday to lift their ban on gay youth as members of the organization effective Jan., 1, 2014. The vote by their National Council only considered gay youth, not gay adult leaders or transgender members.

LGBT and allied organizations across the country are speaking up for equality in Scouting, as 1,400 Boy Scouts of America (BSA) voting members in Dallas vote today on making Scouting more inclusive. The results are expected at 5pm CDT today.

BOSTON – Nine local nonprofit organizations will participate in Give OUT Day, the very first national initiative to mobilize thousands of donors across the country to give in support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer (LGBTQ) nonprofit community on May 9. The day is organized by Bolder Giving, in partnership with the Kevin J. Mossier Foundation and Forward Motion.

“Give OUT Day aims to raise awareness of the need to support LGBTQ nonprofits and elevate the level of LGBTQ philanthropy,” stated Bolder giving Executive Director Jason Franklin.

BOSTON – NBA player Jason Collins, formerly of the Boston Celtics, came out today in an interview with Sports Illustrated.  His decision to release this announcement makes him the first openly gay player actively on a major American sports team, and has effectively changed the climate of sports for LGBTQ athletes.
